محبت کے  اصول (از شمس تبریزی)

 ترک مصنفہ بنام Elif shafak کا ناول Forty Rules of Love  ہے۔۔جس میں مولانا روم اور شمس تبریزی کی ملاقات اور دونوں شخصیات پر اسکے اثرات کو عمدہ پیرائے میں بیان کیا گیا ہے۔ یہ چالیس اصول دراصل شمس تبریزی کے اقوال ہیں     سارے کے سارے اصول ان دونوں ہستیوں کے باہمی مکالمے پر مشتمل نہیں ہیں۔۔۔ناول نگار نے اقوال کو ناول کے بعض دوسرے کرداروں کے ساتھ بھی شمس تبریز کی ہونے والی گفتگو میں پرویا ہے  (ترجمہ محمود احمد غزنوی  )

1- ہم خدا کے بارے میں جو گمان رکھتے ہیں، وہ دراصل ہماری اپنی شخصیت کے بارے میں ہمارے گمان کا ایک عکس ہوتا ہے۔اگر خدا کے ذکر سے ذہن میں محض الزام اور خوف ہی ابھرے تو یہ اس بات کی علامت ہے کہ خوف اور الزام تراشی ہمارے اپنے سینے کی گھٹن میں پنپ رہی ہے۔ اور اگر خدا ہمیں محبت اور شفقت سے چھلکتا ہوا دکھائی دے، تو یقیناّ ہم بھی محبت اور شفقت سے چھلک رہے ہیں۔                 

2- سچائی کا راستہ دراصل دل کا راستہ ہے دماغ کا نہیں۔ اپنے دل کو اپنا اولین مرشد بناؤ، عقل کو نہیں۔ اپنے نفس کا سامنا اور مقابلہ کرنے کیلئے دل کی مدد لو کیونکہ تمہاری روح پر ہی خدا کی معرفت کا نزول ہوتا ہے۔عقل و دل و نگاہ کا مرشدِ اولیں ہے عشقعشق نہ ہو تو شرع و دیں، بتکدہِ تصورات

 3- قرآن پڑھنے والا ہر شخص، قرآن کو اپنے فہم و ادراک کی گہرائی کے مطابق ہی سمجھ پاتا ہے۔ قرآن کی فہم کے چار درجات ہیں۔ پہلا درجہ ظاہری معانی ہیں اور زیادہ تر اکثریت اسی پر قناعت کئے ہوئے ہے۔ دوسرا درجہ باطنی معانی کا ہے۔ تیسرا درجہ ان باطنی معنوں کا بطن ہے۔ اور چوتھا درجہ اس قدر عمیق معنوں کا حامل ہے کہ زبان انکے بیان پر قادر نہیں ہوسکتی چنانچہ یہ ناقابلِ بیان ہیں۔ علماء و فقہاء جو شریعت کے احکامات پر غوروخوض کرتے رہتے ہیں، یہ پہلے درجے پر ہیں۔ دوسرا درجہ صوفیہ کا ہے، تیسرا درجہ اولیاء کا ہے۔ چوتھا درجہ صرف انبیاء مرسلین اور انکے ربانی وارثین کا ہے۔ پس تم کسی انسان کے اللہ تعالیٰ کے ساتھ تعلق اور اس تعلق کی نوعیت کو اپنے قیاس سے جاننے کی فکر نہ کیا کرو۔ ہر شخص کا اپنا اپنا راستہ ہے اور اظہارِ بندگی کی ایک اپنی نوعیت ہے۔ خدا بھی ہمارے الفاظ و اعمال کو نہیں بلکہ ہمارے دلوں کو دیکھتا ہے۔ یہ مذہبی رسوم و رواج بذاتِ خود مقصود نہیں ہیں۔ اصل چیز تو دل کی پاکیزگی ہے۔

 4- تم کائنات کی ہر شئے اور ہرشخص میں خدا کی نشانیاں دیکھ سکتے ہو کیونکہ خدا صرف کسی مسجد، مندر یا کسی گرجے اور صومعے تک محدود نہیں ہے۔ لیکن اگر پھر بھی تمہاری تسلی نہ ہو تو خدا کو کسی عاشقِ صادق کے دل میں ڈھونڈھو۔

 5- عقل اور دل، دو مختلف چیزیں ہیں۔ عقل لوگوں کو کسی نہ کسی بندھن میں جکڑتی ہے اور کسی چیز کو داؤ پر نہیں لگاتی، لیکن دل ہر بندھن سے آزاد ہوکر اپنا آپ داؤ پر لگا دیتا ہے۔ عقل ہمیشہ محتاط اور پھونک پھونک کر قدم رکھتی ہے کہ دیکھو کسی کیفیت کا زیادہ اثر مت لینا۔ لیکن دل کہتا ہے کہ مت گھبراؤ، ہمت کرو اور ڈوب جاؤ کیفیت میں۔ عقل آسانی سے اپنا آپ فراموش نہیں کرتی جبکہ عشق تو بکھرجانے اور فنا ہوجانے کیلئے ہمہ وقت تیار ہے۔ اور خزانے بھی تو ویرانوں میں ملبے تلے ملتے ہیں۔ ایک شکستہ دل میں ہی تو خزانہ مدفون ہوتا ہے۔

 6- دنیا کے زیادہ تر مسائل الفاظ اور زبان کی کوتاہیوں اور غلط معانی اخذ کرنے سے جنم لیتے ہیں۔ چنانچہ کبھی بھی الفاظ کی ظاہری سطح تک خود کو محدود مت کرو۔ جب محبت اور عشق کے میدان میں قدم رکھتے ہیں تو الفاظ بیان اور زبان و اظہار اپنی اہمیت کھو بیٹھتے ہیں۔ وہ جو کسی لفظ سے بیان نہ ہوسکے، اسکو صرف خاموشی سے ہی سمجھا جاسکتا ہے۔

 7- تنہائی اور خلوت ، دو مختلف چیزیں ہیں۔ جب ہم تنہا اور اکیلے ہوتے ہیں تو اس غلط فہمی میں مبتلا ہوجانا بہت آسان ہوجاتا ہے کہ ہم سیدھے رستے پر ہیں۔ لیکن خلوت یہی ہے کہ آدمی تنہا ہوتے ہوئے بھی تنہا نہ ہو۔ بہتر ہے کہ ہماری تنہائی کسی ایسے شخص کے دم قدم سے آباد ہو جو ہمارے لئے ایک بہترین آئینے کی حیثیت رکھتا ہو۔ یاد رکھو کہ صرف کسی دوسرے انسان کے دل میں ہی تم اپنا درست عکس دیکھ سکتے ہو اور اور تمہاری شخصیت میں خدا کے جس مخصوص جلوے کا ظہور ہورہا ہے، وہ صرف کسی دوسرے انسان کے آئینہِ قلب میں تمہیں دکھائی دے گا۔

8- زندگی میں کچھ بھی ہوجائے، زندگی کتنی ہی دشوار کیوں نہ لگنے لگے، مایوس کبھی مت ہونا۔ یقین رکھو کہ جب ہر دروازہ بند ہوجائے تب بھی خداوندِ کریم اپنے بندے کیلئے کوئی نہ کوئی نئی راہ ضرور کھول دیتا ہے۔ ہر حال میں شُکر کرو۔ جب سب کچھ اچھا جارہا ہو، اس وقت شکر کرنا بہت آسان ہے لیکن ایک صوفی نہ صرف ان باتوں پر شکر گذار ہوتا ہے جن میں اسکے ساتھ عطا اور بخشش کا معاملہ گذرے، بلکہ ان تمام باتوں پر بھی شکر ادا کرتا ہے جن سے اسے محروم رکھا گیا۔ عطا ہو یا منع، ہر حال میں شُکر۔

 9- صبر اس بات کانام نہیں ہے کہ انسان عضوِ معطل ہوکر بے بسی کے ہاتھوں برداشت کے عمل سے گذرتا رہے۔ بلکہ صبر کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ انسان اتنا دور اندیش اور وسیع نگاہ کا حامل ہو کہ معاملات کے انجام پر نظر رکھتے ہوئے رب پر بھروسہ رکھے۔ صبر کیا ہے؟ صبر یہ ہے کہ جب تم کانٹے کو دیکھو تو تمہیں پھول بھی دکھائی دے۔ جب رات کے گُھپ اندھیرے پر نظر پڑے تو اس میں صبحِ صادق کا اجالا بھی دکھائی دے۔ بے صبری یہ ہے کہ انسان اتنا کوتاہ بین اور کم نظر ہو کہ معاملے کے انجام پر نظر ڈالنے سے قاصر رہ جائے۔ عاشقانِ الٰہی صبر کا دامن کبھی ہاتھ سے نہیں چھوڑتے، کیونکہ وہ اچھی طرح جانتے ہیں کہ پہلی کے باریک چاند کو ماہِ کامل میں تبدیل ہونے کیلئے کچھ وقت ضرور گذارنا پڑتا ہے۔ 

10- مشرق، مغرب، شمال ، جنوب۔۔۔ان سب سے کچھ فرق نہیں پڑتا۔ تمہارے سفر کی سمت کوئی بھی ہو، بس یہ دھیان ضرور رہے کہ ہر سفر، ذات کا داخلی سفر ضرور بنے۔ اگر تم اپنی ذات کے اندرون میں ایک مقام سے دوسرے مقام تک کا باطنی سفر کرو تو تمہارے ساتھ یہ پوری کائنات اور جو کچھ اس سے ماوراء ہے، وہ بھی شریکِ سفر ہوجاتے ہیں۔ 

11- جس طرح ایک ماں کو بچے کی پیدائش کیلئے درد و کرب کے مرحلے سے گذرنا پڑتا ہے، اسی طرح ایک نئی شخصیت کو جنم دینے کیلئے تکالیف سے ضرور اٹھانی پڑتی ہیں۔ جس طرح ایک دن کو اپنی روشنی پوری شدت کے ساتھ بکھیرنے کیلئے، شدیدگرمی اور حدت برداشت کرنی پڑتی ہے، اسی طرح محبت بھی دکھ اور درد کے بغیر تکمیل کو نہیں پہنچ سکتی۔ 

12- محبت کی تلاش ہمیں تبدیل کرکے رکھ دیتی ہے۔ راہِ عشق میں ایسا کوئی مسافر نہیں گذرا جسے اس راہ نے کچھ نہ کچھ پختگی نہ عطا کی ہو۔ جس لمحے تم محبت کی تلاش کا سفر شروع کرتے ہو، تمہارا ظاہر اور باطن تبدیلی کے عمل سے گذرنا شروع ہوجاتا ہے۔

 13- آسمان پر شائد اتنے ستارے نہ ہوں جتنے دنیا میں جھوٹے اور ناقص شیوخ پائے جاتے ہیں۔ تم کبھی بھی کسی سچے مرشد کو کسی ایسے مرشد سے مت ملانا جو نفس کا پجاری ہو اور اپنی ذات کا اسیر ہو۔ ایک سچا مرشد کبھی بھی تمہیں اپنی ذات کا اسیر بنانے کی کوشش نہیں کرے گا اور نہ ہی اپنے نفس کیلئے تم سے تابعداری اور تعریف و تو صیف کا تقاضا کرے گا۔ بلکہ اسکے برعکس وہ تمہیں تمہاری اصل اور حقیقی شخصیت سے متارف کروائے گا۔ سچے اور کامل مرشد تو کسی شیشے کی مانند شفا ف ہوتے ہیں تاکہ خدا کا نور ان میں سے کامل طور پر چِھن کر تم تک پہنچ سکے۔

 14- زندگی میں جو بھی تبدیلی تمہارے راستے میں آئے، اسکے استقبال کیلئے تیار رہو، اسکی مزاحمت مت کرو بلکہ زندگی کو اس بات کا موقع دو کہ تم میں سے گذر کر اپنا راستہ بناسکے۔ اس بات کی فکر مت کرو کہ زندگی میں نشیب و فراز آرہے ہیں۔ تمہیں کیا پتہ کہ آنے والی تبدیلی تمہارے حق میں بہتر ہے یا موجودہ حالت؟

15- ہر انسان ایک تشنہءِ تکمیل فن پارہ ہے۔جسکی تکمیل کیلئے خدا ہر انسان کے ساتھ داخلی اور خارجی طور پر مصروفِ کار ہے ۔ یہ ایک مسلسل عمل ہے۔ خدا ہم میں سے ہر ایک کے ساتھ انفرادی سطح پر معاملہ کرتا ہے کیونکہ انسانیت ایک بیحد لطیف اور نفیس مصوری کا شہکار ہے جس پر ثبت کیا جانے والا ہر ایک نقطہ پوری تصویر کیلئے یکساں اہمیت کا حامل ہوتا ہے۔

16- ایک بلند و برتر ذات اور ہر طرح کے نقص سے پاک خدا سے محبت کرنا بظاہر تو آسان سی بات معلوم ہوتی ہے۔، لیکن اس سے کہیں زیادہ مشکل بات یہ ہے کہ انسان اپنے ابنائے جنس سے محبت کرے جن میں ہر طرح کی کمزوریاں اور خامیاں پائی جاتی ہیں۔ یاد رکھو کہ انسان اسی کو جان سکتا ہے جس سے وہ محبت کرنے پر قادر ہو۔ محبت کے بغیر کوئی معرفت معرفت نہیں ہوتی۔ جب تک ہم اللہ کی تخلیق سے محبت کرنا نہیں سیکھتے، تب تک ہم اس قابل نہیں ہوسکتے کہ اللہ سے حقیقی طور پر محبت کرسکیں اور اسکو جان پائیں۔

 17- اصل ناپاکی تو اندر کی ناپاکی ہے۔ باقی سب تو آسانی سے دُھل جاتا ہے۔ گرد و غبار کی بس ایک ہی قسم ہے جو پاکیزہ پانی سے صاف نہیں ہوپاتی، اور وہ ہے نفرت اور تعصب کے دھبے، جو روح کو آلودہ کردیتے ہیں۔ تم ترکِ دنیا سے اور روزے رکھنے سے اپنے بدن کا تزکیہ تو حاصل کرسکتے ہو، لیکن قلب کا تزکیہ صرف محبت سے ہی ہوگا۔

18- پوری کی پوری کائنات ایک انسان کے اندر موجود ہے۔ تم اور تمہارے ارد گرد جو کچھ تمہیں دکھائی دیتا ہے، تمام چیزیں خواہ تمہیں پسند ہوں یا ناپسن، تمام لوگ خواہ تم ان کیلئےرغبت رمحسوس کرتے ہو یا کراہت، یہ سب کے سب تمہارے اپنے اندر کسی نہ کسی درجے میں ملیں گے۔ چنانچہ، شیطان کو باہر مت دیکھو، بلکہ اپنے اندر تلاش کرو۔ شیطان کو ئی ایسی غیر معمولی قوت نہیں جو تم پر باہر سے حملہ آور ہوتی ہے ، بلکہ تمہارے اندر سے ابھرنے والی ایک معمولی سی آواز کا نام ہے۔ اگر تم پوری محنت اور دیانت سے کبھی اپنی ذات کے روشن اور تاریک گوشوں کو دیکھنے کے قابل ہوجاؤ تو تم پر ایک عظیم اور برتر شعور کا دریچہ کھلے گا۔ جب کوئی شخص اپنے آپ کو جان لیتا ہے تو وہ اپنے رب کو بھی جان لیتا ہے۔

19- اگر تم چاہتے ہو کہ لوگ تمہارے ساتھ اپنے برتاؤ کو اور رویے کو تبدیل کردیں، تو اسکے لئے پہلے تمہیں اس رویے کو تبدیل کرنا ہوگا جو تم اپنے آپ کے ساتھ روا رکھے ہوئے ہو۔ جب تک تم اپنے آپ سے پورے خلوص سے اور پوری طرح محبت کرنا نہیں سیکھتے، بہت مشکل ہے کہ تمہیں محبت نصیب ہو۔ اورجب یہ مرتبہ حاصل ہوجائے تو پھر ہر اُس کانٹے کیلئے بھی شکر گذار رہو جو تمہارے راستے میں پھینکا جائے۔ کیونکہ یہ اس بات کی علامت ہے کہ تم پر عنقریب پھول بھی نچھاور ہونگے۔ 

20- اس بات پر پریشان مت ہو کہ راستہ کہاں لیکر جائے گا، بلکہ اپنی توجہ اپنے پہلے قدم پر رکھو۔ یہی تمہاری زمہ داری ہے اور یہی سب سےمشکل کام ہے۔ جب پہلا قدم اٹھالیا، تو پھر اسکے بعد ہر شئے کو اپنے قدرتی انداز میں کام کرنے دو اور تم دیکھو گے کہ راستہ خودبخود کھلتا جائے گا۔ بہاؤ کے ساتھ مت بہو، بلکہ خود ایک لہر بن جاؤ جسکا اپنا ایک بہاؤ ہوتا ہے۔

21- اُس نے ہم سب کواپنی صورت پر پیدا کیا ہے لیکن اسکے باوجود ہم سب ایک دوسرے سے مختلف اور یکتا و ممتاز ہیں۔ کوئی بھی دو انسان ایک جیسے نہیں۔ کوئی بھی دو دل یکساں طور پر نہیں دھڑکتے۔ اگر وہ چاہتا تو کہ سب لوگ ایک جیسے ہوجائیں، تو وہ انکو ایک جیسا ہی بناتا۔ چنانچہ اب ان اختلافات کی توہین و تنقیص کرنا اور اپنے افکار کو دوسروں پر مسلط کرنے کی کوشش کرنا دراصل پروردگارِ عالم کی قضا و قدر اور بلند پایہ حکمت کی توہین کے مترادف ہے۔

22- جب اسکا سچا چاہنے والا کبھی میکدے میں جا پہنچے، تو وہ میکدہ اسکے لئے محراب و مصلے کی صورت اختیار کرلیتا ہے، لیکن اگر کوئی بہکا ہوا مئے خوار مسجد میں بھی چلا جائے تو وہ اسکے لئے میخانہ بن جاتی ہے۔ جو کچھ بھی ہم کرتے ہیں اس میں اصل کردار تو ہمارے دل کا ہے، ہمارے اندر کا ہے ، ظاہر کا نہیں۔ صوفی لوگوں کو انکے حلئے اور انکی وضع قطع سے نہیں جانچتے۔ جب ایک صوفی کسی پر اپنی نگاہ جماتا ہے تو وہ دراصل اپنی دونوں آنکھوں کو بند کرچکا ہوتا ہے اور ایک تیسری آنکھ سے(جو اسکے قلب میں ہے) اس منظر کے اندر کا جائزہ لے رہا ہوتا ہے۔

23- زندگی تو ایک ادھار کی مانند ناپائیدار ہے اور اصل حقیقت کا ایک دھندلا سا خاکہ اور نقل۔ صرف بچے ہی اصل حقیقت کی بجائے کھلونوں سے بہلتے ہیں۔ لیکن اسکے باوجود، لوگ کھلونوں پر فریفتہ ہوتے ہیں یا بے قدری سے انہیں توڑ ڈالتے ہیں۔ اس زندگی میں ہر قسم کی انتہاؤں سے دور رہو، کیونکہ انتہاپسندی تمہارے اندرونی توازن کو بگاڑ دیتی ہے۔ صوفی اپنے رویوں میں انتہا پسند نہیں ہوتے بلکہ متوازن اور نرم ہوتے ہیں۔

24- پروردگار کی سلطنت میں انسان کو بہت خاص مقام و مرتبہ حاصل ہے۔ اللہ نے کہا ، " اور میں نے اسکے اندر اپنی روح میں سے پھونک دیا"۔ ہم میں سے ہر ایک کو اس قابلیت کے ساتھ پیدا کیا گیا ہے کہ وہ اسکا خلیفہ بن سکے۔ اپنے آپ سے پوچھو کہ کیا تمہارے اعمال اسکے خلیفہ جیسے ہیں؟ یاد رکھو کہ ہم پر لازم ہے کہ ہم اس رحمانی روح کو (جو ہم میں پھونکی گئی ہے) کو اپنے اندر دریافت کریں ، پہچانیں اور اسکے ساتھ جئیں۔

25- جنت اور دوزخ کے بارے میں فکرمند رہنا چھوڑدو کیونکہ جنت اور دوزخ یہیں ہیں اسی لمحہءِ موجود میں۔ جب بھی ہم محبت محسوس کرتے ہیں، جنت کا ایک زینہ طے کرتے ہیں اور جب بھی نفرت ، حسد اور جھگرے میں پڑتے ہیں، دوزخ کی لپٹوں کی زد میں ہوتے ہیں۔ کیا اس سے بھی بد تر کوئی دوزخ ہوسکتا ہے جب کوئی شخص اپنے دل کی گہرائیوں میں یہ احساس پائے کہ اس سے کوئی بیحد غلط اور برا کام سرزد ہوگیا ہے۔ اس شخص سے پوچھ کردیکھو وہ تمہیں بتائے گا کہ دوزخ کسے کہتے ہیں۔ اور کیا اس سے بڑی بھی کوئی جنت ہوسکتی ہے جب کسی شخص پر خاص لمحات میں وہ سکینت نازل ہوتی ہے جب اس پر کائنات کے دریچے کشادہ ہوتے ہیں اور انسان اپنے رب کے ساتھ قرب کی حالت میں ابدیت کے اسرار سے ہمکنار ہوتا ہے؟ پوچھو اس شخص سے، وہ تمہیں بتائے گا کہ جنت کیا ہوتی ہے۔

26-کائنات ایک وجودِ واحد ہے۔ یہاں ہر کوئی اپنے اپنے واقعات کے غیر مرئی دھاگوں سے ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ لپٹا ہوا ہے۔ ہم سب جانے انجانے میں ایک خاموش مکالمے کا حصہ ہیں۔ کسی کو دکھ نہ دو، نرمی اور شفقت کا برتاؤ رکھو، کسی کی پیٹھ پیچھ اسکی برائی مت کرو خواہ ایک بے ضرر سا جملہ ہی کیوں نہ ہو۔ الفاظ جو ایک بار ہماری زبانوں سے نکل آتے ہیں، وہ کبھی فنا نہیں ہوتے بلکہ ایک لامحدود وسعت میں ہمیشہ کیلئے محفوظ ہوجاتے ہیں اور اپنے مقرر وقت میں واپس ہم تک آن پہنچتے ہیں۔ بالآخر،کسی بھی آدمی کی تکلیف، ہم سب کو ایک اجتماعی دکھ میں مبتلا کرجائے گی اورکسی بھی آدمی کی خوشی ہم سب کے ہونٹوں پر مسکان کا باعث بنے گی۔

27- یہ دنیا اس برفانی پہاڑ کی طرح ہے جہان بلند کی گئی ہر آواز، پہاڑوں سے ٹکرا کر بازگشت کی صورت میں واپس ہم تم پہنچتی ہے۔ جب بھی تم کوئی اچھی یا بری بات کرو گے، تم تک واپس ضرور پلٹ کر آئے گی۔ چنانچہ اب اگر تم کسی ایسے شخص کیلئے برے کلمات منہ سے نکالو، جو ہر وقت تمہارا برا سوچتا رہتا ہے، تو یہ اس معاملے کو اور بھی گھمبیر بنادے گا اور تم منفی قوتوں کے ایک نہ ختم ہونے والے چکر میں گھومتے رہو گے۔ بجائے اسکے کہ تم اسکے لئے کچھ برا کہو، چالیس دن تک اسکے لئے اچھا سوچو اور اچھی بات منہ سے نکالو، تم دیکھنا کہ چالیس دن بعد ہر شئے مختلف محسوس ہوگی، کیونکہ تم پہلے جیسے نہیں رہے اور اندر سے تبدیل ہوگئے۔

28- ماضی ایک تعبیر ہے ایک نقطہ نظر ہے، جبکہ مستقبل مایا (Illusion) ہے ، ایک سراب ہے۔ دنیا ایک خطِ مستقیم کی شکل مین وقت کے دھارے میں سے نہیں گذرتی جو ماضی سے مستقبل کی طرف جا رہا ہو، بلکہ وقت ہمارے اندر سے بتدریج پھیلتے ہوئی لامتناہی قوسوں (Spirals) کی صورت میں گذرتا ہے۔ ابدیت لامحدود وقت کو نہیں بلکہ وقت سے ماورا ہونے کا نام ہے۔ اگر تم ابدی روشنی کے حامل ہونا چاہتے ہو تو ماضی اور مستقبل کو اپنے ذہن سے نکال دو اور فقط لمحہءِ موجود میں باقی رہو۔ یہ لمحہءِ موجود ہی سب کچھ تھا اور سب کچھ ہے اور ہمیشہ رہے گا۔

29- تقدیر کا یہ مطلب نہیں کہ تمہاری زندگی کو مکمل طور پر باندھ کر رکھ دیا گیا ہے۔ ہر بات کو مقدر پر چھوڑ دینا اور کائنات کے ساتھ ہم آہنگ ہونے کی کوئی کوشش نہ کرنا ،محض جہالت کی علامت ہے۔ کائناتی موسیقی ہر طرف سے پھوٹ رہی ہے اور اسکے چالیس مختلف درجات ہیں۔ تمہارا مقدر وہ درجہ ہے جس پر تم اپنا ساز بجا رہے ہو۔ ہوسکتا ہے کہ تمہارا ساز تبدیل نہ کیا جاسکے، لیکن اس ساز سے جو نغمہ اور جو دُھن تم نکالتے ہو اسکا انحصار صرف اور صرف تم پر ہے۔

30- سچا صوفی ایسا فرد ہے کہ اگر اس پر کوئی ناحق تہمت لگائی جائے، اور ہر سمت سے اس پر ملامت کی بوچھاڑ ہو، تب بھی وہ صبر کے ساتھ یہ سب جھیلتا ہے اور تنقید کرنے والوں کے خلاف ایک لفظ منہ سے نہیں نکالتا۔ وہ الزام کے جواب میں الزام نہیں لگاتا۔ اورکوئی اسکا مخالف اور دشمن حتیٰ کہ "غیر" ہو بھی کیسےسکتا ہے جب اس کے نزدیک کسی غیر کا کوئی وجود ہی نہیں۔ وہ تو خود اپنے نفس سے معدوم ہے، چنانچہ وہ کسطرح کسی کو اپنا دشمن یا مخالف سمجھے جب وہاں صرف اور صرف ایک ہی واحد ذات کی جلوہ نمائی ہے؟

31- اگر تم اپنا ایمان مضبوط کرنا چاہتے ہو تو اسکے لئے تمہیں اپنے اندر کی سختی دور کرنا ہوگی۔ چٹان کی طرح مضبوط ایمان کیلئے کسی پرندے کے پروں سے بھی زیادہ نرم دل درکار ہے۔ زندگی میں بیماریاں، حادثات ، نقصان ، تمناؤں کا ٹوٹنا اور اس قسم کے کئی دیگر معاملات ہمارے ساتھ اسی لئے پیش آتے ہیں تاکہ ہمیں رقتِ قلب عطا کریں، ہمیں خودغرضیوں سے نکالیں، نکتہ چینی کے رویے تبدیل کریں اور ہمیں کشادہ دلی سکھائیں۔ کچھ لوگ تو سبق سیکھ کر نرم ہوجاتے ہیں اور کچھ لوگ پہلے سے بھی زیادہ سخت مزاج اور تلخ ہو جاتے ہیں۔ حق تعالیٰ کے قریب ہونے کیلئے ضروری ہے کہ ہمارے قلوب اتنے کشادہ ہوں کہ تمام انسانیت اس میں سما سکے اور اسکے بعد بھی ان میں مزید محبت کی گنجائش باقی رہے۔

32- کوئی امام، کوئی پادری، کوئی ربی اور اخلاقی و مذہبی قائدین میں سے کوئی بھی تمہارے اور تمہارے رب کے بیچ حائل نہیں ہونا چاہئیے۔ حتیٰ کہ تمہارا ایمان اور تمہارا روحانی مرشد بھی نہیں ۔ اپنے اقدار اور اصولوں پر ضرور یقین رکھو، لیکن انکو دوسروں پر مسلط مت کرو۔اگر تم لوگوں کے دلوں کو توڑتے رہتے ہو، تو کوئی بھی مذہبی فریضہ انجام دینا تمہارے لئے سود مند نہیں ۔ ہر قسم کی بت پرستی سے دور رہو کیونکہ یہ تمہاری روحانی بینائی کو دھندلا دے گی۔ صرف اپنے رب کو اپنا مرشدِ حقیقی سمجھو۔ علم اورمعرفت ضرور حاصل کرو، لیکن ان علوم و معارف کو اپنی زندگی کا مقصد مت بناؤ۔

33- اس دنیا میں جہاں ہر کوئی کسی نہ کسی مقام پر پہنچنے اور کچھ نہ کچھ بننے کی جدو جہد کرتا ہے، حالانکہ یہ سب کچھ ایک دن اسے یہیں چھوڑنا پڑجاتا ہے، ایسے میں تم صرف اور صرف نایافت اور نیستی کو اپنا مقصد قرار دو۔ زندگی میں اتنے سبک بن جاؤ جتنا کہ صفر کا ہندسہ ہوتا ہے۔ ہم ایک برتن کی طرح ہیں۔ برتن پر خواہ کتنے ہی نقش و نگار کیوں نہ ہوں، لیکن اسکا کارآمد ہونا صرف اس خلا کی وجہ سے ہے جو اسکے اندر ہے، یہ خلا ہی اسے برتن بناتا ہے اور یہی نایافت اور خلا ہمیں بھی درست رکھتے ہیں۔ کسی مقصد کا حصول ہمیں متحرک نہیں رکھتا ، بلکہ یہی خالی پن کا شعور ہے جو ہمیں رواں دواں رکھتا ہے۔

34- سرِ تسلیم خم کرنے اور راضی برضا رہنے کا یہ مطلب نہیں کہ ہم بے عمل ہوکر عضوِ معطل ہوجائیں اور نہ ہی یہ جبریت (Fatalism) یا تعطیل (Capitulation)ہے۔ بلکہ یہ تو اسکے بالکل برعکس ہے۔ اصل قوت تسلیم و رضا میں ہے، ایسی قوت جو ہمارے اندر سے پھوٹتی ہے۔ وہ لوگ جو زندگی کی الوہی(Divine) حقیقت کے سامنے سرِ تسلیم خم کردیتے ہیں، و ہ ایسے دائمی سکون اور سکینت میں رہتے ہیں کہ اگر سارا جہان موج در موج فتنوں میں مبتلا ہوجائے تب بھی اس سکون میں کوئی خلل نہیں پڑتا۔

35- اس دنیا میں جہاں ہم رہ رہے ہیں، یکسانیت اور ہمواریت ہمیں آگے لیکر نہیں جاتی، بلکہ مخالفت اور تضاد آگے لیکر جاتا ہے۔ اور دنیامین جتنے بھی متضاد امور ہیں، وہ سب ہم میں سے ہر ایک کے اندر بھی پائے جاتے ہیں۔ چنانچہ ایک مومن کیلئے ضروری ہے کہ اپنے اندر کے کافر سے ضرور ملے۔ اور ایک کافر کو بھی اپنے اندر کے خاموش مومن کو دریافت کرنا چاہئیے۔ ایمان ایک تدریجی سفر ہے جسکے لئے اسکے مخالف یعنی بے یقینی کا ہونا لازم ہے تاوقتیکہ انسان، انسانِ کامل کے مقام تک جاپہنچے۔

36- دنیا عمل اور اسکے ردعمل کے اصول پر قائم ہے۔ نیکی کا ایک قطرہ یا برائی کا ایک ذرہ بھی اپنا ردعمل یا نتیجہ پیدا کئے بغیر نہیں رہتے۔ لوگوں کی سازشوں، دھوکہ دہیوں اور چالبازیوں کا خوف مت کھاؤ ۔ اگر کوئی تمہارے لئے جال تیار کر رہا ہے تو یاد رکھو کہ اللہ بھی خیر الماکرین ہے اور سب سےاچھامنصوبہ ساز ہے۔ ایک پتا بھی اسکے علم اور اجازت کے بغیر نہیں ہلتا۔ بس اللہ پر سادگی کے ساتھ اور پوری طرح یقین رکھو۔ وہ جو کچھ بھی کرتا ہے، بہت خوبصورت طریقے سے کرتا ہے۔

37- خدا بہت باریک بین اور بڑا ہی کاریگر گھڑی ساز ہے۔ اتنا درست کہ زمین پر ہر چیز اپنے مقررہ وقت پر وقوع پذیر ہوتی ہے۔، نہ ایک لمحہ وقت سے پہلے اور نہ ایک لمحہ تاخیر سے۔ اور یہ عظیم گھڑی، بغیر کسی استثناء کے، سبھی کیلئے بالکل ٹھیک اور درست طور پر کام کرتی ہے۔ ہر ایک کیلئے محبت اور موت کا ایک لمحہ مقرر ہے۔

38- کوئی حرج نہیں اگر زندگی کے کسی بھی مرحلے میں ہم اپنے آپ سے یہ سوال پوچھیں کہ" کیا میں اپنا طرزِ زندگی اور اپنی روش بدلنے کیلئے تیار ہوں؟ کیا میں اپنا آپ بدلنے کیلئے تیار ہوں؟"۔ اگر دنیا میں ہماری زندگی کا ایک دن بھی گزرے ہوئے دن کے مساوی گذرے تو بڑی حسرت کا مقام ہے۔ ہر لمحہ ، ہر آن ، اورہر سانس کے ساتھ ہمیں اپنی تجدید کرتے رہنا چاہئیے،نیاجنم لیتے رہنا چاہئیے۔ اور نیا جنم لینے کیلئے ایک ہی طریقہ ہے۔۔۔موت سے پہلے مرجانا۔

39- جزو تبدیل ہوتا رہتا ہے، لیکن اسکا کُل ویسے کا ویسا ہی رہتا ہے۔ دنیا سے جب بھی کوئی چور ڈاکو رخصت ہوتا ہے، اسکی جگہ لینے کیلئے ایک نیا شخص پیدا کردیا جاتا ہے۔ اور ہر صالح اور ولی کے رخصت ہونے پر کوئی دوسرا صالح اور ولی اسکی جگہ سنبھال لیتا ہے۔ اس طریقے سے بیک وقت ہر شئے تبدیل ہوتی جاتی ہے لیکن مجموعی حقیقت میں کوئی تبدیلی واقع نہیں ہوتی۔

40- محبت کے بغیر زندگی بے معنی ہے۔ مت سوچو کہ مجھے کس قسم کی محبت کی تلاش ہے؟ روحانی یا جسمانی، ملکوتی یا ناسوتی، مشرقی یا مغربی۔۔۔ محبت کی یہ تقسیم مزید تقسیم پیدا کرتی ہے۔ محبت کا کوئی عنوان نہیں ہوتا ، نہ ہی کوئی مخصوص تعریف (Definition) ۔ یہ تو ایک سادہ، اور خالص چیز ہے بس۔ محبت آبِ حیات بھی ہے، اور آتش کی روح بھی ہے۔ جب آتش آب سے محبت کرتی ہے، تو کائنات ایک مختلف روپ اور نئےانداز میں ظہور پذیر ہوجاتی ہے۔

The Forty Rules of Love

Rule 1

How we see God is a direct reflection of how we see ourselves. If God brings to mind mostly fear and blame, it means there is too much fear and blame welled inside us. If we see God as full of love and compassion, so are we.

Rule 2

The path to the Truth is a labour of the heart, not of the head. Make your heart your primary guide! Not your mind. Meet, challenge and ultimately prevail over your nafs with your heart. Knowing your ego will lead you to the knowledge of God.

Rule 3

You can study God through everything and everyone in the universe, because God is not confined in a mosque, synagogue or church. But if you are still in need of knowing where exactly His abode is, there is only one place to look for him: in the heart of a true lover.

Rule 4

Intellect and love are made of different materials. Intellect ties people in knots and risks nothing, but love dissolves all tangles and risks everything. Intellect is always cautious and advices, ‘Beware too much ecstasy’, whereas love says, ‘Oh, never mind! Take the plunge!’ Intellect does not easily break down, whereas love can effortlessly reduce itself to rubble. But treasures are hidden among ruins. A broken heart hides treasures.

Rule 5

Most of problems of the world stem from linguistic mistakes and simple misunderstanding. Don’t ever take words at face value. When you step into the zone of love, language, as we know it becomes obsolete. That which cannot be put into words can only be grasped through silence.

Rule 6

Loneliness and solitude are two different things. When you are lonely, it is easy to delude yourself into believing that you are on the right path. Solitude is better for us, as it means being alone without feeling lonely. But eventually it is the best to find a person who will be your mirror. Remember only in another person’s heart can you truly see yourself and the presence of God within you.

Rule 7

Whatever happens in your life, no matter how troubling things might seem, do not enter the neighbourhood of despair. Even when all doors remain closed, God will open up a new path only for you. Be thankful! It is easy to be thankful when all is well. A Sufi is thankful not only for what he has been given but also for all that he has been denied.

Rule 8

Patience does not mean to passively endure. It means to look at the end of a process. What does patience mean? It means to look at the thorn and see the rose, to look at the night and see the dawn. Impatience means to be shortsighted as to not be able to see the outcome. The lovers of God never run out of patience, for they know that time is needed for the crescent moon to become full.

Rule 9

East, west, south, or north makes little difference. No matter what your destination, just be sure to make every journey a journey within. If you travel within, you’ll travel the whole wide world and beyond.

Rule 10

The midwife knows that when there is no pain, the way for the baby cannot be opened and the mother cannot give birth. Likewise, for a new self to be born, hardship is necessary. Just as clay needs to go through intense heat to become strong, Love can only be perfected in pain.

Rule 11

The quest for love changes user. There is no seeker among those who search for love who has not matured on the way. The moment you start looking for love, you start to change within and without.

Rule 12

There are more fake gurus and false teachers in this world than the number of stars in the visible universe. Don’t confuse power-driven, self-centered people with true mentors. A genuine spiritual master will not direct your attention to himself or herself and will not expect absolute obedience or utter admiration from you, but instead will help you to appreciate and admire your inner self. True mentors are as transparent as glass. They let the light of God pass through them.

Rule 13

Try not to resist the changes, which come your way. Instead let life live through you. And do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?

Rule 14

God is busy with the completion of your work, both outwardly and inwardly. He is fully occupied with you. Every human being is a work in progress that is slowly but inexorably moving toward perfection. We are each an unfinished work of art both waiting and striving to be completed. God deals with each of us separately because humanity is fine art of skilled penmanship where every single dot is equally important for the entire picture.

Rule 15

It’s easy to love a perfect God, unblemished and infallible that He is. What is far more difficult is to love fellow human being with all their imperfections and defects. Remember, one can only know what one is capable of loving. There is no wisdom without love. Unless we learn to love God’s creation, we can neither truly love nor truly know God.

Rule 16

Real faith is the one inside. The rest simply washes off. There is only one type of dirt that cannot be cleansed with pure water, and that is the stain of hatred and bigotry contaminating the soul. You can purify your body through abstinence and fasting, but only love will purify your heart.

Rule 17

The whole universe is contained within a single human being-you. Everything that you see around, including the things that you might not be fond of and even the people you despise or abhor, is present within you in varying degrees. Therefore, do not look for Sheitan outside yourself either. The devil is not an extraordinary force that attacks from without. It is an ordinary voice within. If you set to know yourself fully, facing with honesty and hardness.

Rule 18

If you want to change the ways others treat you, you should first change the way you treat yourself, fully and sincerely, there is no way you can be loved. Once you achieve that stage, however, be thankful for every thorn that others might throw at you. It is a sign that you will soon be showered in roses.

Rule 19

Fret not where the road will take you. Instead concentrate on the first step. That is the hardest part and that is what you are responsible for. Once you take that step let everything do what it naturally does and the rest will follow. Don’t go with the flow. Be the flow.

Rule 20

We were all created in His image, and yet we were each created different and unique. No two people are alike. No hearts beat to the same rhythm. If God had wanted everyone to be the same, He would have made it so. Therefore, disrespecting differences and imposing your thoughts on others is an amount to disrespecting God’s holy scheme.

Rule 21

When a true lover of God goes into a tavern, the tavern becomes his chamber of prayer, but when a wine bibber goes into the same chamber, it becomes his tavern. In everything we do, it is our hearts that make the difference, not our outer appearance. Sufis do not judge other people on how they look or who they are. When a Sufi stares at someone, he keeps both eyes closed instead opens a third eye – the eye that sees the inner realm.

Rule 22

Life is a temporary loan and this world is nothing but a sketchy imitation of Reality. Only children would mistake a toy for the real thing. And yet human beings either become infatuated with the toy or disrespectfully break it and throw it aside. In this life stay away from all kinds of extremities, for they will destroy your inner balance. Sufis do not go to extremes. A Sufi always remains mild and moderate.

Rule 23

The human being has a unique place among God’s creation. “I breathed into him of My Spirit,” God says. Each and every one of us without exception is designed to be God’s delegate on earth. Ask yourself, just how often do you behave like a delegate, if you ever do so? Remember, it fells upon each of us to discover the divine spirit inside and live by it.

Rule 24

Hell is in the here and now. So is heaven. Quit worrying about hell or dreaming about heaven, as they are both present inside this very moment. Every time we fall in love, we ascend to heaven. Every time we hate, envy or fight someone we tumble straight into the fires of hell.

Rule 25

Each and every reader comprehends the Holy Qur’an on a different level of tandem with the depth of his understanding. There are four levels of insight. The first level is the outer meaning and it is the one that the majority of the people are content with. Next is the Batin – the inner level. Third, there is the inner of the inner. And the fourth level is so deep it cannot be put into words and is therefore bound to remain indescribable.

Rule 26

The universe is one being. Everything and everyone is interconnected through an invisible web of stories. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are all in a silent conversation. Do no harm. Practice compassion. And do not gossip behind anyone’s back – not even a seemingly innocent remark! The words that come out of our mouths do not vanish but are perpetually stored in infinite space and they will come back to us in due time. One man’s pain will hurt us all. One man’s joy will make everyone smile.

Rule 27

Whatever you speak, good or evil, will somehow come back to you. Therefore, if there is someone who harbours ill thoughts about you, saying similarly bad things about him will only make matters worse. You will be locked in a vicious circle of malevolent energy. Instead for forty days and nights say and think nice things about that person. Everything will be different at the end of 40 days, because you will be different inside.

Rule 28

The past is an interpretation. The future is on illusion. The world does not more through time as if it were a straight line, proceeding from the past to the future. Instead time moves through and within us, in endless spirals. Eternity does not mean infinite time, but simply timelessness. If you want to experience eternal illumination, put the past and the future out of your mind and remain within the present moment.

Rule 29

Destiny doesn’t mean that your life has been strictly predetermined. Therefore, to live everything to the fate and to not actively contribute to the music of the universe is a sign of sheer ignorance. The music of the universe is all pervading and it is composed on 40 different levels. Your destiny is the level where you play your tune. You might not change your instrument but how well to play is entirely in your hands.

Rule 30

The true Sufi is such that even when he is unjustly accused, attacked and condemned from all sides, he patiently endures, uttering not a sing bad word about any of his critics. A Sufi never apportions blame. How can there be opponents or rivals or even “others” when there is no “self” in the first place? How can there be anyone to blame when there is only One?

Rule 31

If you want to strengthen your faith, you will need to soften inside. For your faith to be rock solid, your heart needs to be as soft as a feather. Through an illness, accident, loss or fright, one way or another, we are all faced with incidents that teach us how to become less selfish and judgmental and more compassionate and generous. Yet some of us learn the lesson and manage to become milder, while some others end up becoming even harsher than before…

Rule 32

Nothing should stand between you and God. No imams, priests, rabbits or any other custodians of moral or religious leadership. Not spiritual masters and not even your faith. Believe in your values and your rules, but never lord them over others. If you keep breaking other people’s hearts, whatever religious duty you perform is no good. Stay away from all sorts of idolatry, for they will blur your vision. Let God and only God be your guide. Learn the Truth, my friend, but be careful not to make a fetish out of your truths.

Rule 33

While everyone in this world strives to get somewhere and become someone, only to leave it all behind after death, you aim for the supreme stage of nothingness. Live this life as light and empty as the number zero. We are no different from a pot. It is not the decorations outside but the emptiness inside that holds us straight. Just like that, it is not what we aspire to achieve but the consciousness of nothingness that keeps us going.

Rule 34

Submission does not mean being weak or passive. It leads to neither fatalism nor capitulation. Just the opposite. True power resides in submission a power that comes within. Those who submit to the divine essence of life will live in unperturbed tranquillity and peace even the whole wide world goes through turbulence after turbulence.

Rule 35

In this world, it is not similarities or regularities that take us a step forward, but blunt opposites. And all the opposites in the universe are present within each and every one of us. Therefore the believer needs to meet the unbeliever residing within. And the nonbeliever should get to know the silent faithful in him. Until the day one reaches the stage of Insane-I Kamil, the perfect human being, faith is a gradual process and one that necessitates its seeming opposite: disbelief.

Rule 36

This world is erected upon the principle of reciprocity. Neither a drop of kindness nor a speck of evil will remain unreciprocated. For not the plots, deceptions, or tricks of other people. If somebody is setting a trap, remember, so is God. He is the biggest plotter. Not even a leaf stirs outside God’s knowledge. Simply and fully believe in that. Whatever God does, He does it beautifully.

Rule 37

God is a meticulous dock maker. So precise is His order that everything on earth happens in its own time. Neither a minute late nor a minute early. And for everyone without exception, the clock works accurately. For each there is a time to love and a time to die.

Rule 38

It is never too late to ask yourself, “Am I ready to change the life I am living? Am I ready to change within?” Even if a single day in your life is the same as the day before, it surely is a pity. At every moment and with each new breath, one should be renewed and renewed again. There is only one-way to be born into a new life: to die before death.

Rule 39

While the part change, the whole always remains the same. For every thief who departs this world, a new one is born. And every descent person who passes away is replaced by a new one. In this way not only does nothing remain the same but also nothing ever really changes. For every Sufi who dies, another is born somewhere.

Rule 40

A life without love is of no account. Don’t ask yourself what kind of love you should seek, spiritual or material, divine or mundane, Eastern or Western. Divisions only lead to more divisions. Love has no labels, no definitions. It is what it is, pure and simple. Love is the water of life. And a lover is a soul of fire! The universe turns differently when fire loves water.

Analysis

                Tagore has created an imaginary country where people can live without any discrimination and without any boarders which separate one nation with other. Where people feel free and fearless to express their idea, where people speak truth, where everyone is united and sincere with others, where new ideas are no disturbed by the old practice and these things are the key to awake a nation. Tagore is against the division of nation by the narrow conception of nationalism. These concept of nationalism forced us to create boundaries around us and which leads toward war between nations.

                The poem might be trying to show the value of truth, knowledge, unite, thought, honor, and freedom. Id all these characteristics are found in the inhabitants of a country then their country itself would become heaven. The poet not only praying or expressing some sort of affection for his country but he says that this world is broken into number of pieces depending on caste, color and creed.

It shows some sort of complicity of Alexie’s discourse which strengthened the Euro-American discourse. But it is not complicity rather it is the acceptance of reality living in the surrounding of whites. The female protagonist of hybrid “The Search Engine” in Ten Little Indians has a mixed relationship. Her parents and uncles forced his to turn toward tribal culture but her academic background force her to tilt toward the white.

            Alexie’s poetry may afford greater passion, which mostly described the primitive culture of Native American, for example the buffalo in “the summer of black widow” stare in the eyes of the whites which disturbed their stare. But prose has to work with a relatively greater tilt toward realism which Alexie did his fictions and prose.

Primitive culture of Native American by Sherman Alexie.

            The Euro-American discourse of history and literature have no pace for the Native American because all the available history and literature have been written in the perspective of the domineer and ruler. There was no place for the cultural and ritual practices; eagle feather, buffalo, salmon, etc. have no significance. But Alexie describe the primitive culture and depict how much the native has lost. He also reinterpreted history on the perspective of Native American. Though Alexie’s poetry and fiction reactivate pre-Columbian discursive life patterns yet it is naïve to criticize that he tried pull back the native into their primitive culture.

            The ontological position of Euro-American was that the white are the superior and center of the universe and all the things are to be subjugate, destroy and exploit for the progress but the Natives have horizontal relation with nature. Native believed that nothing is to be subjugate, destroy and conquer. Alexie reinterpretation of Jesus, Moses, buffalo, salmon, Columbus, deer and eagle give new significance to the naïve American. Alexie reinterpreted Jesus as that Jesus Christ has already came back and again crucified. He called himself crazy horse and didn’t tell about his third attempt. All the things gave new meaning because of the reinterpretation, which adjust in the native culture.

            Foucault is concerned with resistance to power, he believed that sometime this power shapes events and pattern of behavior. Corliss the female protagonist of “The Search Engine” in Ten Little Indians: she is created to act between two culture; native and Euro-American. She was force by her parent to tilt toward tribalism and her academic influence bound her to turn toward the new culture thus, she got a new identity.

            Euro-American discourse stressed that the primitive culture of Native American is unchangeable and doomed because they are unable to fix themselves into the new culture. Whole plethora involved to construct a myth against the Native American and Alexie are criticized that he has strengthen the Euro-American perspective because he also depicted primitive Native culture, who are indulged in alcoholism but this point is missed that alcoholism is the daily life routine of Native American’s. The focus on the primitive culture is to reestablish that what has been lost by Native American due to Euro-American. Another reason is to present the history of Native American though their own perspective.
